A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US

How it Started

From Josh's University Dorm

Josh studied product design at Nottingham Trent University. For his major project he decided to focus on building a product for an easier way to wake up in the morning, whilst encouraging a routine at night. The Barisieur was born.

Product market fit

People wanted it

Upon graduation, Josh put the product online and it proceeded to go viral. The Barisieur featured on Fox News, Japan TV, The Daily mail and he received over 50-100 emails a day from people asking how to buy it.

So Josh decided to develop the product further and to crowd-fund the product to see if people wanted to pre-order it.

May 26th 2016

We Launched on Kickstarter

There were constant delays in understanding if the working prototype for the Barisieur was good enough to go live on Kickstarter, but Josh couldn't wait any longer and nervously pressed the launch button in 2016 May 26th.

The Barisieur campaign raised over $130,000 in 6.5 hours, and an overall amount of $785,000 across Kickstarter and Indiegogo. It was astonishing.

We definitely had something here.

Design for Manufacture

Manufacturing

After managing to get a working prototype in the UK, Josh headed to China to source factories who could help with manufacturing the Barisieur.

This was quite difficult, as factories required incentivising to take on a new project. A lot of tea ceremonies and discussions were had, but we managed to finally find our factory that could help with production.

London backers

Special Delivery

In 2018 we finally manufactured the Barisieur and shipped it to our warehouses to ship out to our 2500 backers.

Josh decided to hand deliver 20 units to backers in London. One of them just so happened to be Jonathan Ross, the UK Chat show host.

It was a great day and you can view more about this on our YouTube video HERE.

Kickstarter V2

Tea Brewing

4 Years since we first launched on Kickstarter, we were lunching another product!

We had people asking how can they improve their tea brewing experience, so we decided to make the Brew Chamber. This had a stainless steel filter with a bung at the end, to allow for longer brewing.

This could work with The Barisieur, The Manual Brewer. Because the Barisieur had a USB port, we also decided to design and manufacture a Wireless charger made from recycled aluminium, so people could charge their table with style over night.

We raised £180,000 for our new range and couldn't thank our community enough.

Then Covid-19 struck...

Crowd Cube

Equity for our Community

Covid-19 hit us pretty hard as we had some major retail relationships that we were growing with that suddenly stopped. We had also been designing a really strong product pipeline for our community that we were determined to continue with.

So we went on CrowdCube to raise investment to continue our growth. We ended up raising £250,000 from our community which helped us continue our dream of bringing Joy to people through Tangible solutions.

The Barisieur 2 Cup

Getting products to market is not easy and takes a lot of time. Especially with our small but mighty team in London. People across the world were asking us:

"What do I do about my partner if they want a coffee?" or

"I need a bigger cup than that!"

So we decided to refine the Barisieur for 2-cups by designing a dual spout to work for 1 or 2 cups.

This time we launched on Indiegogo and raised £50,000. You can see the campaign HERE.

We are now working on bringing the product to market and have gone into production with a Q4 ETA.

Newness

Grinder + Moka

After years of scaling the Barisieur with our incredible community, it was about time we offered them even more.

We saw a few problems with two major products in the coffee industry that we wanted to solve.

  1. With manual coffee bean grinders, they are compact but time consuming vs counter top grinders which are bulky and (obviously) not portable. We thought we could combine both these functions. The Groove Compact was born.
  2. With your typical Moka Pots, they are made from aluminium (so don't work on induction hobs), plus you can't see the beautiful brewing process or know how much left is in the pot after serving. So we brought the Clear Brew Moka Pot to you.
