]]>When we are not daydreaming about waking up to the aroma of a fresh coffee we are are dreaming about the aroma wafting through your kitchen, the rich, robust flavour, and that satisfying ritual of brewing your morning elixir.
After months of anticipation, trials, and tribulations, we proudly introduce our new Moka Pot with a groundbreaking glass top.
A Tale of Innovation and Perseverance
Creating this Moka Pot was no easy feat. It's a delicate balance of form and function, tradition and innovation. Our journey towards crafting this coffee maker was marked by both challenges and triumphs, and one major hurdle we faced was the integration of a glass top.
Traditionally, Moka Pots come with a solid, opaque top made from metal. However, we were determined to push the boundaries of design and functionality. We envisioned a Moka Pot that would not only brew exceptional coffee but also provide a visual spectacle—a true coffee theatre in your kitchen. This vision led us to the idea of a glass top.
The glass top presented unique challenges in terms of manufacturing. It had to withstand high temperatures, be durable, and ensure a tight seal for the brewing process. After numerous prototypes and rigorous testing, we finally achieved the impossible—crafting a glass top that met our exacting standards.
The Beauty of Transparency
Our new Moka Pot's glass top is more than just a design choice; it's a revelation. It allows you to witness the coffee-making process as it unfolds. As water heats up and pressure builds, you can see the magic happening inside the pot. The rich, dark coffee rising in the upper chamber is a sight to behold, and it heightens the anticipation of that first sip.
Beyond its visual appeal, the glass top serves a practical purpose. It lets you gauge the progress of your brew, ensuring you get the strength and flavor you desire. It's like having a front-row seat to your coffee's journey from grounds to greatness.
Craftsmanship at Its Best
Our journey to create this innovative Moka Pot has been a labor of love. Every detail, from the ergonomic handle for a comfortable grip to the precision-machined components, reflects our commitment to quality and craftsmanship. And the glass top? It's not just any glass; it's toughened borosilicate glass that can handle the heat and pressure with grace.
Our Moka Pot's elegant design will complement any kitchen aesthetic, making it a conversation piece among coffee connoisseurs and novices alike. It's not just a coffee maker; it's a work of art.
A Brew That Delights
But what truly matters is the coffee it brews. Our new Moka Pot is designed to deliver a bold and flavorful cup of coffee that captures the essence of your favorite beans. Whether you prefer a classic espresso or a milder brew, our Moka Pot is versatile enough to meet your preferences.
With the glass top, you can now see the beauty of the brew unfold, from the initial sizzle to the final drop. It's an experience that elevates your morning routine, turning an ordinary moment into something extraordinary.
Join Us in Celebration
We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone in our journey. Our new Clear Brew Moka Pot is a testament to our commitment to innovation, quality, and the art of coffee-making. It's the culmination of hard work, passion, and a relentless pursuit of perfection.
Experience the magic of coffee brewing like never before with our new Moka Pot. Elevate your mornings, impress your guests, and savour the beauty of transparency. It's time to awaken your senses and embark on a new coffee adventure.

]]>We have so many questions...Who would have thought Captain Marvel likes having coffee before putting on her suit?
Did word spread through the superhero grapevine and did Dr Strange recommend our coffee maker to Captain Marvel?
Also, are you excited as us to see The Barisieur featured in the MCU for a SECOND TIME?
THE MARVELS
We were delighted to see The Barisieur featured on Marvel Studios’ The Marvels trailer and even more happy to see The Barisieur is cat friendly.
We see a glimpse of Captain Marvel’s upcoming trial for which she must partner with her best friend’s daughter Monica Rambeau ( who get her powers on Wanda Vision by crossing the hex barrier) and Ms Marvel/Kamala Khan (who inherited her abilities through a family heirloom as can be seen on the series Ms Marvel). We’re excited to see the trio team up and take down evil - while brewing our delicious coffee on the spaceship.
When can you see The Barisieur in Marvel Studios’ The Marvels?
The upcoming film will be released on 10th November 2023. We can’t wait to see our product on the big screen and until then we’ll be brewing and sipping coffee to pass the time.
Don’t forget to tag @joyresolve when you see Chewie operating The Barisieur!
Hi Guys,
For International Coffee Day (1st of October), we decided to launch our new coffee bean grinder.
Introducing the Groove Compact - Our wireless, electric, burr (stainless steel) coffee bean grinder.
Why did we Design the Groove Compact?
Most of us know that great tasting coffee comes down to a lot of things, but mainly the consistency of your grind consistency. A lot of coffee heads like to use manual grinders as they typically are the best way to grind coffee due to the burr grinders which are usually well engineered. There are also counter top grinders but these can take up a lot of space in the kitchen.
We also wanted a product that you can take with you, whether you want to grind in the office or on an adventurous camping trip. This is a versatile grinder that can do it all.
How does it Work?
Direct Grinding
We thought it would be great to be able to grind your beans directly into a Chemex, french press or even the Barisieur filter.
To find out more information please go to the product page HERE.
We have also made a Youtube Video:

]]>The wait is finally over...
The Barisieur journey
We originally launched the Barisieur on Kickstarter back in 2016 where we raised over $800,000 from backers all over the world. As you know the current Barisieur is a one-cup bedside brewer that creates the ultimate awakening experience. The main objective with the Barisieur was to create more Joy in the morning for our customers, through stimulating all 5 senses. However our customers wanted more.
Why have we launched the Barisieur Grande?
We are constantly listening to our community, whether it is positive or negative feedback we want to hear it all. A lot of people were reaching out to us and saying they love the current Barisieur but they required it to brew 2-cups for them and their partner. Some even required a larger serving. Therefore we listened and looked into refining the Barisieur to their requirements.
From the Original Barisieur to the Grande
Hardware is called hardware for a reason. It's HARD. Getting a product to market has it challenges and is very expensive (especially the Barisieur which has over 75 parts). It's not as simple as just upgrading the current version for existing customer. We've gone through a lot of iterations and put parts through tests to understand what we need to do to take the next steps into improving the Barisieur.
Why do we launch on reward-based crowd-funding platforms?
Reward based crowd-funding is where backers pay a hugely discounted off the RRP for a product, but in return for the discount they have to wait longer than a normal e-commerce website to receive the goods. The pre-orders helps prove the market for the product we are looking to launch, but also contributes to the minimum order quantity that the factory requires for their time to set up tools, manufacture and assemble the product. It's a win-win for everyone.
How can I get involved?
What if I already own a Barisieur but want to upgrade to the Grande?
Great question. We really wanted to make the upgrade as simple as possible for existing customers who are thinking about changing. That being said, it turns out that it is more complicated than we originally planned for as we can not simply do a software upgrade via an app at this point. Therefore, we will be offering a Buy Back Scheme which will allow existing customers to get the largest discount for the product (you will have to prove you own the existing Barisieur after completion by sending us your original order number). We will then ship you the Barisieur Grande with a return label, for you to ship the Original Barisieur back to us. We will recycle the unit responsibly or use as B-stock for display units in retail stores etc.
When will it be available on the market for delivery?
We are desperately trying to get the Barisieur Grande in our warehouses for distribution by December 2022. But this is a very ambitious target. But we are very ambitious. Click the video below to be taken to our Indiegogo campaign.
All the best,
Team Joy Resolve

Small company, BIG Impact
There's no doubt that climate change is harming our planet, but if we can make a small changes, hopefully we can make a big impact.
We've decided that for every order of one of our products that includes a wooden feature, we will plant 1 whole tree.
How do we do it?
We have partnered with tree planting companies across the world, who work with local communities to help restore healthy forests and reduce extreme poverty.
By planting trees, we can help sequester CO2 emissions while providing co-benefits such as water filtration, shelter, food sources, poverty-alleviation and biodiversity.

The last couple of months have been challenging and we hope you're healthy, staying inside and keeping yourself both hydrated and caffeinated.
At Joy Resolve, learning to keep up with the new work in a home routine has been a challenge in itself and I'm incredibly proud of my teams versatility and adaptability. 4 years to the day we launched the original Barisieur which quickly become a go to method for leveling up the morning's of coffee and design lovers alike all over the world. This year we're back on our Birthday with our second kickstarter campaign. Introducing the Barisieur Immersion Edition with wireless charging. Your personal bedside barista, an automatic tea and coffee brewer with alarm clock functionality.
As a British company - we thought it was about time we let the tea community join in on the barisieur experience. We carried forward the features you know and love from the Original:
- The smart induction heater is engineered to deliver 94 degree celcius water; ensuring all flavours are fully extracted.
- The automatic smart mini fridge, keeps milk cool 24/7.
- A storage compartment allows for a weeks-worth of brews.
- And the hand blown, all-glass, brewing system.
But we know you're here for the new stuff!
SO WHAT'S NEW?
1. Barisieur Immersion Edition:
After countless design iterations we landed on this simple brew chamber design which lets you control the strength of your brew.
Brew chamber: The specially designed strainer blocks the exit until you lift the tab, releasing the brew directly into your cup.
Shower head: We've redesigned the shower head ensuring an even dispersion of water over the coffee or tea.
2. Wireless Charger:
Machined from a selection of woods and aluminium. Our wireless charger compliments the Barisieur. The invisi grip lining secures your phone and upgrades your charging experience.
3. Manual Immersion Brewer:
We've also designed a stand for the immersion brewer, so you can enjoy the ritual of manual brewing. With its simple 3 part design, it's easy to rinse ... ready for the next use.

A DAY IN AMSTERDAM:
Nenad's Instagram feed is a minimalists dream, full of beautiful dutch interiors, architecture and coffee. He and his wife are somewhat experts in the coffee field and having owned what used to be one of Amsterdam's hippest specialty cafes ( @coffeesometime ) they've tasted coffees from all around the world.
We met with Nenad on a Sunday morning at one of his favourite cafes Toki, he takes a sip of his favourite oat latte and tells us about his daily routine: "I have this coffee first, then I do the other stuff, kind of mentality. With The Barisieur I'm really able to optimise my mornings. I continuously work on multiple projects so that caffeine kick in the morning really gives me a boost throughout the day."
Nenad's Barisieur recipe: 200ml of water, 3 scoops of freshly ground and locally roasted coffee and a dash of oat milk.
During the week Nenad falls into his work-life routine sticking to specific places near his daily commute.
FOR THAT MORNING CUP OF JOE he'll stop at a specialty coffee shop and concept store called Coffee District ( @coffeedistrict ) .
FOR A QUICK TREND CHECK stop at the amazing clothing store Four ( @fouramsterdam ).
GET YOUR INTERIOR INSPIRATION at Casa Gitane ( @casagitane )
During the weekend however Nenad and Yulia ( @yulienick ) like to take their time and truly enjoy what Amsterdam has to offer.
FAVOURITE CAFE. They'll often start their mornings with brunch and a good cup of coffee at Public Space ( @publicspace ).
FAVOURITE ACTIVITY. The Amsterdam classic, a cycle around the city or on a sunny day a train to the coast.
FAVOURITE RESTAURANT. According to Nenad this is one of Amsterdam's best kept culinary secrets, Libertine ( @libertine.amsterdam ).
If a few days to visit Amsterdam is all you have, the above itinerary will give you good overview and feel of the local life but don't forget to visit the classics. Make sure to leave enough time for the immense list of attractions and sights and let this itinerary be your guide to local eats and drinks. It will take you off the beaten path and show you the real Amsterdam. Not the overly tourist one most people get to see.

]]>Oxidation - Why Coffee Gets Stale?
More likely than not, the coffee you drank this morning is some of the most flavourful and delicious coffee ever consumed. But on that rare occasion we stumble across a cup of coffee that just tastes stale.
The reason behind stale coffee is a process called oxidation. Once a coffee is roasted, it is immediately under attack by its environment. Heat, moisture, and other aromas ( i.e. keeping coffee in your spice cupboard ) can change the flavour of the coffee, but one of the greatest factors in coffee staling is oxygen. Coffee grounds are full of various oils, chemical compounds, and acids. These compounds, referred to collectively as "solubles," give coffee its flavour. They're extracted from the grounds in the brewing process and give coffee its quintessential "coffee" taste and smell. Once coffee beans touch air, coffee flavour and smell starts to degrade as solubles start to oxidise — similar to iron becoming rusty when it’s exposed to oxygen for too long. This is why roasters package their beans in vacuum-sealed containers, so the beans are no longer in contact with oxygen from the air. You can even notice the change in taste just minutes after grinding your coffee. This is why specialty coffee houses grind and brew coffee in small batches.
Pre-Ground Coffee Beans Vs Whole Beans?
The main difference between pre-ground and whole-bean coffee is freshness, flavour and scent. When using pre-ground coffee there is the convenience of not having to grind your own coffee and doing it improperly. Although, you are taking away from the freshness of your home brew and the length of time it has until it goes stale. The benefit of whole bean coffee is having the freshest cup possible every time if properly stored. It is hard to compare the freshness of pre-ground coffee and whole-bean coffee if you have never experienced a fresh cup of whole-bean coffee when ground just minutes before being brewed. The aroma and flavor of the fresh brew is highly noticeable.
When opening a packet of pre-ground coffee it should be brewed immediately. Even vacuum sealed jars won't stop it from going stale, once oxygen hits the pre-ground coffee it's a race against time. Leaving your pre-ground coffee over night in your Barisieur or in a vacuum sealed cup will make almost no difference in taste.
The choice is entirely up to you. You can play it safe and take advantage of the convenience of pre-ground coffee or enjoy the freshness of a cup of whole-bean coffee.
How to avoid brewing stale coffee with the Barisieur?
When using your Barisieur, to get maximum flavour we suggest using fresh roasted coffee beans and grinding them before starting your brew on demand. On the other hand when preparing the Barisieur for your morning wake up, the best way to get a tasty cup is by using fresh roasted beans and grinding them coarsely before going to bed. But as we all know, we can't stop the damaging effects of time.
Let us know how you get on.
All the best,
Josh Renouf
]]>While we love our stainless steel filter, the Barisieur also works great with paper filters if they are something you’re used to using or would like to try! The Steel filter will create your brew faster as the water passes through more easily. While paper filters will give a slightly stronger taste as the water takes more time soaking through - a benefit however is that they can simply be popped in the bin by your bedside when your brew finishes, just make sure you remember to keep stock!
Whether you want a light or strong brew the Barisieur has you covered. You can put up to 4 scoops in the filter - letting you customise your brew to your preference. Make sure to use a coarser grind if you add more coffee powder so you keep a good flow of waer going through, ensuring the filter doesn’t overflow.
Where the water comes from to make a brew is often overlooked. However using filtered water over the traditionally hard water that comes out the sink, can give a difference in taste and will mean you need to decalcify your glassware less regularly!
Timing is everything with coffee, a perfect brew is no longer perfect if it gets cold while you’re having your morning shower. This is why we’ve included a DELAY function, which let’s you set the Barisieur to brew from 5 minutes before to 15 minutes after your alarm sounds.
Once you master the craft of coffee & tea brewing, don't forget to show it off. We love seeing your photos and videos so make sure to tag us and we'll show you some love in the comments.
Enjoy & let us know how you get on with your Barisieur.

A DAY IN ROTTERDAM WITH WOUTER KAAN:
I frequently get asked where are the best spots in Rotterdam for coffee, lunch, shopping. So I thought it would be nice to take you out on a day in my life, in my city...
Morning routine:
I love starting my day early with a cup of coffee, breakfast and a glass of water. But as mornings at times get hectic, my routine often falls apart and I'll end up pressing the snooze button and running to work without my precious caffeine boost.
So a few weeks ago when I got myself The Barisieur coffee alarm clock and it truly took my morning routine to the next level. I love how it wakes me up with a warm cup of coffee. It's small things like these that make getting out of bed easier and make my day more productive.
To get myself in the right mindset I'll often listen to music or read the news in the morning. Then it’s time to get out of the house...
For those in need of a quick touch up or a fresh haircut. The guys over at The Barber Parlour sure know what they do. The shop is located not too far from my house in ‘De Hofbogen’.
Favourite design store:
Also based in ‘De Hofbogen’ you can find one of my favourite stores in Rotterdam. Pantoufle is a store full of beautiful designs from all around the world. The store itself is a minimalistic open space with soft materials and truly beautiful pieces. They stock goods made by the finest makers, using natural materials. For example, you can get your Artek stools, Hasami porcelain and Carl Hansen and Son chairs here.
The best cafes:
After a quick browse at Pantoufle, I'll go around the corner for coffee at ‘Man Met Bril Koffie’ translated ‘The Man With Glasse's Coffee’. It the perfect place if you want to work outside and enjoy a good brew.
My second recommendation for those in need of a tasty treat and a good espresso is paying Harvest Coffee Brewers a visit. Based south of the city centre behind the docks you’ll find arguably the best coffee the city has to offer. The staff are great and their menu never disappoints. You’ll find me here at least once a week and if you pay them a visit I'm sure you won’t regret it.
For those on the lookout for some high-quality clothing:
There is one street where you can find a few of my favourite stores. In the van Oldebarneveldstraat, you can find stores like Filippa K, Hutspot and some boutiques like T0K10 (Japanese streetwear with brands like Comme des Garcons and Visvim) and Ansh46. Last mentioned has a great selection of brands like Acne Studios, Maison Margiela, Raf Simons and Off-White. The store itself is also beautiful, so definitely check them out if you have time.
See you soon...
So pack your bags and come visit Rotterdam! It has so much more to offer than I could ever grasp in this blog. From beautiful architecture, museums, culture and food the city await's for you to explore. And of course, if you happen to find yourself here and you don’t know where to go, feel free to reach out.
You can follow Wouter's story and his unique photography at:
All the best,
W.K.
]]>A morning routine allows you to start your morning with intention, rather than letting the day run away from you. You control the day, the day doesn’t control you. This feeling of being on top of things results in a positive feeling and effect on your entire day.
With The Barisieur, our aim is just that, to help people wake up and get out of bed. Making mornings easier and saving you precious time, all the while sipping on a great cup of coffee or tea.
1. WILL WAKING UP AT 5AM MAKE ME MORE PRODUCTIVE? 😴
The most important thing isn't what time you get out of bed - it's getting in tune with your body clock for a good routine. A healthy morning routine may be the most important thing no matter what time you wake up. Your body actually knows what it should be doing and when. Don't force yourself to be part of the 5 am club if you can't fall asleep before midnight.
2. FOCUS YOUR MIND 💡
Read the news, your favourite magazine, something inspirational or a good book. There will be plenty of time to catch up with work later. Right now take a moment for yourself, slowly wake up and focus the mind.
3. HYDRATE 💦
Keeping your body hydrated as the day starts, helps promote a sustained flow of blood to your skin and releases toxins from your system.
4. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS 🔕
Switch up your phone alarm for an alarm clock. Proud owners of The Barisieur know how nice it is to wake up to the smell of fresh coffee instead of the phone ringing and a wave of notifications.
5. EXCERCISE 🔥
Morning workouts are one of the best ways to feel energized, boost your mood, reduce stress and prepare you for your day. You’ll receive an instant energy boost and increased mental clarity that will lead to a productive day at the office.
6. MEDITATE ☺️
Meditation can be beneficial at any hour of the day, but there are undeniable benefits of a short morning meditation becoming as ingrained in your routine as a cup of coffee. Mornings can be the best time of day to incorporate meditation because of their quiet nature.
7. TAKE A COLD SHOWER 😳
A cold shower in the morning does more than wake you up and improve your circulation. The cold and warm stimuli constrict and dilate your blood vessels, which strengthens your immune system. It also reduces sore muscles and supports recovery after sports.
8. SCHEDULE YOUR DAY ✍️
Make a list of tasks you want to complete by the end of the day. Try to be realistic about your efficiency instead of creating a lengthy list of tasks that will be impossible to complete.
9. WIN THE MORNING 🏆
If it seems daunting to overhaul your morning routine all at once, introduce one new practice a week and see if you notice an improvement. After all, they say if you win the morning, you win the day. Don't we all want to win at life?
10. OWN IT ❤️
There is no suggestion that one small habit is more important than the other. Instead, it’s up to you to find the ones that best work for your situation. The hardest part of starting a morning routine is getting started. Stop hitting the snooze button. Wake up and smell the coffee. Now it’s your turn. Own it.
All the best,

]]>FROM COFFEE CHERRIES TO GREEN COFFEE BEANS:
Coffee is technically a fruit and the brown coffee beans that we roast are the seeds of a coffee cherry that grow on coffee trees.
These days, coffee as a commodity is available almost everywhere at any time, yet it is grown and harvested at only specific times of the year and there is a long chain of processes and people that make it all possible.
Coffee requires specific temperatures and moisture levels and is usually grown in high altitude mountainous areas where mechanical harvesters are not possible to use, so it is mainly picked by hand. The fruit can take between 8 and 11 months to ripen.
The coffee plant produces cherries that are either red or yellow in colour once ripe, if you were to bite into one, it would taste sweet, but what we’re really interested in isn’t the flesh of the cherry, (which these days is used for a drink called cascara) but the two green beans you find inside of it.
PROCESSING THE COFFEE BEANS:
These green beans are then processed and dried. The processing varies on the flavours the processor wants to lock in and develop within the coffee bean, but we'll touch down on that detail in a future post.
Coffee is set out to dry for 10 – 20 days and once dry it is packaged into sacks and exported to coffee drinking nations.
ROASTING THE COFFEE BEANS:
To get that brown coffee bean colour and pungent coffee smell, the beans have to be roasted. The roaster will take into account the coffee variety, moisture level and the way it will be brewed. Normally, a lighter roast is used for filter coffee and a darker one for espresso. The roast level is highly important as it defines the compounds that will determine the flavour of the drink. To get your hands on some of the best-roasted beans, we highly suggest buying them at your local speciality coffee roastery or speciality coffee shop.
GRINDING THE COFFEE BEANS:
Roasted whole coffee beans, if sealed properly, can last a while on the shelf - while ground coffee oxidizes and loses taste rapidly. To get the most out of your coffee beans, we suggest grinding your coffee and choosing the appropriate grind size. The grind size is important as it determines how much and what flavours you'll extract when water hits the coffee grounds. When making an espresso the hot water will quickly pour through the grounds, due to this short contact of the grounds with water, we can maximize extraction by finely grinding the beans. In contrast. When brewing filter coffee the water pours through the grounds slowly, thus a more coarse grind size is recommended, so that not to many bitter flavours are extracted from the coffee powder.
MAKING COFFEE WITH THE BARISIEUR:
Making coffee with The Barisieur is simple and almost hands-free. To get the most out of your morning coffee, we suggest reading our perfect morning coffee routine blog. While for those looking to get the most out of their drink and extract the most flavour from the bean we suggest using our brew on-demand feature that will allow you to brew your freshly ground coffee at any time.
COFFEE WASTE?
An estimated 250,000 tonnes of coffee waste are sent to landfill each year, with less than 1% of the actual coffee bean used to create a coffee. This coffee has also traveled hundreds of miles from the likes of Columbia or Panama to then be used and get discarded.
At Joy Resolve we came up with the idea to use coffee waste in some of our latest designs like our coffee coasters and coffee table.
We gather waste from local coffee shops and use them to create coffee panels that can then be shaped into sustainable timeless furniture pieces.

]]>What makes a cup of coffee perfect?
It's really the moment that counts. We all have at least one memory where coffee put us in a good mood. Be it shared with friends, sipping on an espresso at the speciality cafe or having a moment to yourself in the morning with your newspaper and your favourite coffee mug. We'll do our best to set a good base with our coffee recipe and let you be the creator of the rest of the story. Wake up, take a coffee, and say cheers to life.
INGREDIENTS MATTER:
Coffee:
Firstly to get the most out of your coffee, we suggest getting your hands on some freshly roasted coffee beans. What coffee origin or roast level you purchase will determine the taste and we suggest exploring different types to truly find the flavour that suits you best. When grinding your coffee we suggest a fine grind or as you would for filter coffee and lightly tap it down with the spoon provided. Grinding your coffee will ensure your coffee tastes fresh and you get the most flavour out of the bean.
Ratio:
We suggest using a 1:15 ratio. This will produce roughly 172ml of flavour packed coffee.
- 13g of coffee
- 200ml of water
- ratio 1:15
Water:
Coffee is roughly 98% water, so your coffee’s taste will highly depend on water quality. Tap water has a lot of minerals that can limit or even ruin the quality of your cup. We suggest using filtered, distilled or mineral water.
With that said, the SCAA standards state that for a superior quality coffee extraction, your water should be clean, fresh, odour-free, clear in colour, and should have a mineral content of around 150 parts per million (ppm), while the best water pH for coffee is 7.0 (neutral).
Temperature:
The Barisieur brews coffee at the optimum temperature of 94C. Water temperature is essential in this process, because if your water is too hot, you risk an over extraction, leaving the coffee tasting bitter, and if your water is too cold, you can risk an under-extraction, where the coffee is weak, and maybe even tastes sour.
Filter ( metal vs. paper ):
Our two-layered mesh metal filters produce a more robust and visually darker cup of coffee, which contains more oils and no sediment. Paper filters produce a brighter, sweeter cup of coffee with little or no sediment or oils. The Barisieur comes with a two-layered mesh metal filter but you can also use paper filters, the choice is yours.
Milk:
Oat milk, almond milk, cow's milk...whichever you prefer will stay cold and fresh in our refrigerated milk vessel ( the milk vessel can hold up to 20ml of liquid and our small fridge will maintain the temperature at 3'C - 5'C ).
Coffee drawer and spoon:
The perfect secret compartment for your sugar, coffee, biscuits...and a spoon that holds on average 5g of coffee fine ground coffee.

This interruption of the life-dependent ecosystem endangers all sea life species and risks our own species’ health and well-being.
Plastic is one of the most useful materials humans have ever created. It’s great for forming organic shapes and allows for affordable products. It is durable, water-resistant and can create a range of colorways. Our problem is not with plastic as a material but what we use it for. We make so many things that don’t require the longevity and purpose that plastic has been designed for. Generally, we don’t need the straw we use to sip one drink or the bag we bought at the supermarket to carry groceries several steps up the road, before going in the bin.
Because plastic is so cheap to produce it’s an attractive material for companies looking to bolster margins and profits. So as much as consumers have to change their habits and use of single-use products, it’s imperative that we see top-down change, with big companies leading from the front.
The smaller the piece of plastic, the greater the number of species who will consume it. It’s not just the albatross or sperm whale that ingest plastic bags. Microplastics and nanoplastics are eaten by sea cucumbers, corals, clams and muscles, zooplankton and krill – all at the very base of the food web, meaning all levels are infiltrated. And where the plastics go, chemicals follow.
JoyResolve Ocean coasters are made from ocean plastic collected, cleaned and processed for reuse. But the task of creating our repurposed coasters is not a commercial alternative, costing around 10 times more than normal plastic. This isn’t a product we want to make forever and one day we hope to run out of source material, as humanity’s environmental impact on the planet’s ocean lessens. We created these coasters as a way of presenting a stylish product that sparks not only conversation but a shift in public consciousness, heralding a move towards active, ethical consumer behaviour.
]]>An estimated 250,000 tonnes of coffee waste are sent to landfill each year, with less than 1% of the actual coffee bean used to create a coffee. This coffee has also traveled hundreds of miles from the likes of Columbia or Panama to then be used and get discarded. This is excessive waste.
According to the World Bank, we currently generate over 2 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste globally each year, with projections reaching 3.4 billion tonnes by 2050. Almost 40% of that waste is disposed of in landfills where it generates harmful greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to climate change.
We realised that while this waste is great for compost, there is still too much waste going to landfill. After researching the industry, we eventually came across a sustainable company called Smile Plastics. They specialise in collecting waste plastic and turning it into panels. We met with founder Adam in 2016 who had in fact already created a material out of coffee, named Çurface. This material was not yet readily available on the market though, only being used as the material for bespoke cladding in the odd coffee shop and office.
We worked tirelessly with Adam on this project, perfecting the material and table design. Adam had set up a process with Green Cup in order to gather waste coffee from local and large coffee shops, offering a circular coffee solution where the waste they create can actually be used to make the furniture in their spaces.
We were relentless in developing this material for use as furniture and, with Adam, continued to perfect the material.
I wanted the table to be simple, elegant and timeless whilst celebrating this beautiful and environmentally-engaged material, and I want more people to change the way they see and value material. It’s important that the form utilises sets as much of the material as possible, by tessellating the shapes to minimise waste when cutting out the design from the panels
Joshua Renouf, Creative Director at JoyResolve
Smile Plastics’ mission is to change the perceptions around waste via innovation – using art and technology to unlock the hidden potential in recycling and open eyes to the unexpected beauty of scrap. In doing so, they hope to inspire more people about sustainability and recycling.
This project is the first of many JoyResolve and Smile Plastics collaborations.
]]>I don’t think I’ve ever felt so sick yet so excited in my life; at the point where my finger was hovering over the LAUNCH button ready to go live, I genuinely think my heart stopped!
In a second of The Barisieur being live, somebody had already bought our first ‘super early bird’: our first ever sale! We then proceeded to make £30,000 in 30 minutes. I was watching the numbers increase by the second and it was an incredible feeling. 6 hours in and we had raised over £100,000. I was in shock. Not just because of the amount of money I had raised, but because it showed that people cared and wanted to support me. I don’t think there is a better feeling knowing that there were people around the world putting there hands up and saying “Yeah I’ll back you, yeah I think your product’s cool”. This was a great moment of self-reflection when I realised this is why I do what I do. The long hours were hopefully going to pay off.
At the time of writing the blog, the amount was at £171,283 with 22 days to go, to reach a target of £380,000. That’s 45% funded. This is an ambitious target, but an honest one. This is the number we have arrived at after receiving multiple quotes back from factories, engineers, freight companies, going back and forth relentlessly. We think it is better to be completely honest from the start, taking these backers on what could be an incredible and insightful journey, allowing them to see the ‘behind the scenes’ action of what it takes to get a complex product like this to market. We are not putting the target high so we can raise funds, cash out and go sip margaritas on a beach somewhere (with this target, there is barely enough profit to go buy a beer after the hard work).
However, we don’t do it for the profit, we do it for you and for the story. We know this journey will be challenging and not cheap. We would rather set the goal high and not achieve it than set a low goal and achieve it, but deliver a product that doesn’t match our high-quality standards. This is why we have a strong team that can and will deliver, if we get the funding.
But while The Barisieur put us on the map, it is by no means our brand in its entirety.
With the launch of The Barisieur, our list of exciting, yet-to-be-announced products was growing. As such, we needed to think about what the world should known us as. With a multitude of new designs, we needed a strong, engaging brand name that truly encapsulated all we stand for.
At the time, there were ideas to launch with a brand name that centred creative director Josh Renouf at its very heart. Josh went away and designed a smart logo, one that featured his initials and spoke strongly to the design features we are passionate about. But Josh eventually found himself hesitant to placing himself at the brand’s centre; Josh wanted the focus to be on our inventions and collaborations, the factors which will determine the our future successes.
So, a name. Well for a start, one of our key design principles is that the growth of consumerism today has been incredible for the economy but terrible for the environment. Fast fashion and its cheap, sweatshop-manufactured goods, and the cyclical nature of product replacement, has lead to a throwaway society where product value has decreased. Many industries have cynically moved away from a built-to-last model of product design and manufacturing.
We have long been committed to robust product design, rejecting the notion that something can be considered ‘obsolete’ because of the annual release of a moderately-updated version of the same product.
In opposition to global trends, we see the pleasure in purposeful, well-made design and in products that get fixed, not thrown away.
With this approach to consumer needs, a shorthand for the governing principles of what we wanted to achieve began to emerge: we are looking for joyful resolutions. A tighter, more compact version of this, JoyResolve, perfectly encapsulated our core principles, as well as making reference to Josh’s grandmother, whose name was Joy. This placing of family at the centre of what we do spoke to our careful, considerate approach to product design. JoyResolve also shares Josh’s initials, allowing him to use the that principal logo design we were so attached to!
Now, JoyResolve is an award-winning lifestyle and homeware brand that believes in bringing happiness through formal, functional and resolved solutions. We do this by creating courageous, built-to-last products that are in pursuit of redefining the concept of luxury living.
Targeting both the style- and eco-conscious, JoyResolve strikes the perfect balance between functional design and timeless aesthetic, envisioning its premium products at the centre of a conscientious lifestyle. By using spent coffee grounds and recycled ocean plastic as core materials, for example, JoyResolve puts a contemporary twist on its approach to sustainability. These brilliantly renewable concepts truly encapsulate the brand’s forward-thinking purpose.
JoyResolve resolves everyday frustrations through the re-examination of overcomplicated processes and devices, in a powerful demonstration of the art of stripping back. Our signature minimalist style allows the products to transcend arbitrary trends to achieve an enduring, iconic look.
We manufacture in the UK or EU when possible, and responsibly in China when necessary for commerciality.
